I don't blog about my candle making adventures, my family (with two thousand pictures of my kids), or my life as a housewife who makes quilts 24/7. I'm not some pretentious hipster who can't finish three sentences without using some form of the word "musing." I'm just here to laugh at society.

Honey Boo Boo and America

When Honey Boo Boo and some of her family went to a burger joint in Florida, they caused a big commotion, considering they're rather famous. Since they felt bad about how much trouble they inadvertently caused, they borrowed a jar and encouraged people coming up to them to leave tips, which they then donated to a charity that raises awareness about cyber bullying.

I've never watched Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, and I still probably wont, just because I don't really watch a lot of TV, but all I've ever heard about the show has been negative. About how weird the family is and how they're a disgrace to America. And you know what? That's fine. Those are your opinions. At least, I would hope they're yours and you aren't just saying those things because that's what someone else said. The way I see it though, how bad could they possibly be if they're using their fame and influence to help other people?

And the best part is, that while they're out there simultaneously causing no harm to anyone, just living their lives, and raising money for charity, they're still being bashed for being disgraceful to our country. Honey Boo Boo and family, I apologize on behalf of everyone else ever who thinks that giving money to charity and not doing anything wrong is not a reason for public shaming, including things such as having petitions on Change.org to take your show off the air. I hope you have a nice day.

Now, everyone else in America: I know that hate has been a big part of America's past, but it doesn't have to be a part of our future. Hate in itself causes inequality, because hate is derived from a notion of superiority, and is rooted deep in ignorance. America was supposed to be a safe-haven of freedom and equality, and your idea of a utopia wherein individuals aren't doing anything out of your idea of the status quo is disgraceful. Please stop being hypocritical. Or, better yet, if the America where people are free to do what they want, including eating hamburgers, having a TV show, and donating money to charity, isn't the America you want to live in because you feel like that behavior is "disgraceful," feel free to leave. It's a free country, after all. You can do that.
